John M. Kelly (politician)

John Maurice Kelly ( born August 31, 1931 † 24 January 1991) was an Irish university professor, politician of the Fine Gael and several times minister.

Biography

Kelly holds a degree in law and subsequently held a barrister ( Barrister) operates. Later he was appointed university professor.

His political career began as the candidate of Fine Gael in 1969 with the election of the member of the Senate ( Seanad Éireann ), in which he represented the group culture and education until 1973. In 1973 he was a deputy of the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) is selected, which he belonged until 1989 and in which he represented the constituencies of Dublin South.

During the first Fine Gael government since 1957, he was appointed to his office in March 1973 from Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) Liam Cosgrave to the Parliamentary Secretary. In addition, he was at times also Parliamentary Secretary in the Defence and the Foreign Ministry. Most recently, he was from Mai to July 1977, Attorney General ( Attorney General ) in the cabinet of Lynch.

Prime Minister Garret FitzGerald then appointed him on 30 June 1981 for the Secretary of State, Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism in the government. After a few months he was replaced on 21 October 1981 as Secretary of State James Dooge, but retained the office of the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism to the end of FitzGerald's term of office on 9 March 1982.
