Khadzhimurat Gatsalov

Chadschimurad Soltanowitsch Gazalow (Russian Хаджимурад Солтанович Гацалов; born December 11, 1982 in Tschikola, North Ossetia, Soviet Union ) is a Russian wrestler of Ossetian origin. Career

Chadschimurad Gazalow grew up in Vladikavkaz and began at the age of 11 years with the rings. He comes from a family Ossetian, in which the struggle is already exercised a long time. Three of his uncles were also wrestlers. In Vladikavkaz, he was the coach of W. W. Tschebojew introduced to the Russian top class in freestyle wrestling at the junior age. After winning the world title in the juniors in 2001 in Tashkent at middleweight, he went to Moscow and joined the Sports Club of the Army CSKA Moscow. This club he belongs to today, but still has close ties to his hometown of Vladikavkaz. In Moscow he was coached by Vladimir Golubow. The head coach of the Russian freestyle team Dzhambulat Tedejew, another Ossetian, cared much about Chadschimurad Gazalow.

After he had consolidated his achievements as a young wrestler, he was sent in 2003 to the European Championship in Riga. In Riga, he was charged with five victories at first European Champion in the light heavyweight division. Towards this title, he defeated world class wrestler like Luka Eldari Kurtanidse from Georgia, Wadym Tassoew from the Ukraine and in the final Çakiroglu Fatih from Turkey, against which he won with 4:1 points.

This title he defended in 2004 in Ankara. It gave him to four wins. In the very first battle, the German Martin Siddique against Chadschimurad Gazalow had to admit defeat and also Wadym Tassoew had no chance in the final 0:10 points. In the subsequent qualification for the Olympic Games in Athens Chadschimurad Gazalow had to do hard work in order to prevail in the Russian championship against its many competitors such as Shamil Gitinow, Chadschimurad Magomedov and Schirwani Muradov.

In Athens Chadschimurad Gazalow was at his best. He won the light heavyweight about as tough opponents as Wadym Tassoew, Alexander Schemarow from Belarus, Daniel Cormier in the U.S. (5-0 ) and Magomed Ibragimov of Kazakhstan (4:1 ) and thus won the gold medal in the light heavyweight division.

In the years 2006 and 2007 Chadschimurad Gazalow was unbeatable. He was in both years World Champion and 2006 European Champion. At the European Championship 2007, he was not at the start. He defeated such top -rounder as Georgi Gogschelidse from Georgia, Michael Martinez Batista from Cuba, Kurban Kurbanov from Uzbekistan, Magomed Ibragimov and again Luka Eldari Kurtanidse.

At the 2008 European Championships in Tampere he had after a long time once accept a defeat. Georgi Gogschelidse almost defeated him 5-4 points, which Chadschimurad Gazalow after a victory in the battle for 3rd place over Ruslan Scheikow from Belarus won the European Championship bronze medal only.
