Kieren Keke

Kieren Keke Aedogan (* June 27, 1971 in Yaren ) is a nauruischer doctor, former Speaker of the Nauruan Parliament and former Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On 23 April 2004 Keke took along with his parliamentary colleagues David Adeang, Fabian Ribauw and Baron Waqa in protests at the airport in Yaren and was punished with 14 years imprisonment. The prison sentences were lifted after the change of government in the following June 22.

In September 2004, Keke was indicted by Parliament Speaker Russell Kun because of dual citizenship of Nauru and Australia to be suspended from his mandate in Parliament. The charges were upheld, although in the Nauruan Constitution nowhere is that for a member of Parliament dual citizenship is prohibited. This suspension had another " deadlock " in Parliament straight, then President Ludwig Scotty dissolved the Parliament. In the following 2004 parliamentary elections and in 2007 Keke was re- elected to Parliament and as Minister of Health. On November 10, 2007, he met with Justice Minister Roland Kun and Industry Minister Frederick Pitcher back after a falling out with Foreign Secretary David Adeang.

After Scotty had been deposed by a vote of no confidence in December 2007, Keke was appointed by the new President Marcus Stephen as the new foreign minister. In December 2009, he agreed with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, the recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia by Nauru in return said Russia investments in infrastructure to Nauru. Nauru making it the fourth country after Russia, Nicaragua and Venezuela, which recognizes the sovereignty of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

On November 10, 2011 Kieren Keke was replaced in office by Mathew Batsiua after the resignation of President Stephen. On 11 June 2012, he was appointed by President Sprent Dabwido again as foreign minister. On 7 February 2013, resigned. During the elections on June 8, 2013 he was again elected to parliament.
