Komnenos

The Comnenus (Greek Κομνηνός ( Komnenόs ), plural Κομνηνοί ( Komnenoi ) feminine form Komnena ) were a noble dynasty of the Byzantine Empire. They presented from 1057 to 1059 and then from 1081 to 1185, the Byzantine emperor, and from 1204 to 1461, the ruler of the Empire of Trebizond, entitled Großkomnene ( Μέγας Κομνηνός ).

The Comnenus were a military family that, from the village Komne arise (localization disputed: possibly in Thrace, but more likely in Asia Minor ) had become established in Paphlagonia and II have been landowners since the time of Emperor Basil. Their rule was accompanied at the same time cultural prosperity with the progressive deterioration of business and management.
