Konakovo

Konakovo (Russian Конаково ) is a town with 41 291 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in Russia. It lies on the southern bank of the Iwankowoer dam of the Volga, about 120 km north- west of Moscow and 82 km south-east of the regional center of Tver.

History

The place is known since 1806 as a village called Kuznetsovo ( Кузнецово ). A significant importance it gained the end of the 1820s, as here, a porcelain and faience factory was built. Over the years, the production of this factory achieved a good reputation, what Kuznetsovo has made nationally in other regions of Russia. 1929, the settlement in Konakovo was renamed in honor of a revolutionary named Porphyrius Konakow, and in 1937 she received the city status.

Economy and Transport

The most well known companies in the city is the thermal power plant Konakowskaja GRES northeast of the town center. It was built in 1969 and is today the regional power company Enel OGK -5, which was spun out of the state energy company, Unified Energy System in 2004. There are also in Konakovo today a factory for Fayencegeschirr, which emerged from the old porcelain and faience. Other industries Konakowos are a building material and a tool factory.

Konakovo has a shipping pier at Iwankowoer reservoir, thus in the upper reaches of the Volga between Tver and Dubna. There is also a railway connection through a branch line that branches off from the railway line St. Petersburg - Moscow.
