La Línea de la Concepción

La Línea de la Concepción is a Spanish city in the province of Cádiz in the south of the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. It is 5 m ü.d.M. on the border with Gibraltar. The provincial capital Cádiz is 134 km.

History

1730 the limit was fixed to Gibraltar by bulwarks, to halt the expansion of the British Crown Colony halt. Gradually traders settled, resulting in a hamlet formed, which was initially dependent on the municipality of San Roque. On January 17, 1870, the City of San Roque became independent. The now independent municipality had 300 inhabitants and was called La Linea de Gibraltar. Beginning in 1883, the name of La Línea de la Concepción appears in the records and in 1913 received the place by this name of King Alfonso XIII. granted town rights.

Markets

Every Wednesday morning unless a week there before fair beginning and during the fair in La Linea a great market place, where you can buy food, clothes and other things. Furthermore, there is every working day a small street market in the city center are offered on the both clothing and food.
