La Paz Municipality, Bolivia

The municipality of La Paz (more precisely: " Nuestra Señora de La Paz " ) is a district in the department of La Paz in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location in near space

The municipality of La Paz is one of five Municipalities of the province of Murillo and lies in the northern part of the province. It is bordered to the west by the municipality of El Alto, to the southwest by the municipality of Achocalla, to the south by the municipality of Mecapaca, on the southeast by the municipality of Palca, on the east by the province of Nor Yungas, in the north- east by the province Caranavi, on the north by the Larecaja Province, and on the northwest by the province Loayza.

The municipality has 62 localities ( Localidades ), the central location of the municipality of La Paz is with 791 633 inhabitants ( 2001) in the southern part of the municipality.

Geography

The municipality of La Paz is on the edge of the Bolivian Altiplano at an average altitude of 3800 m directly west of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central. The region has a pronounced diurnal climate where the temperature differences between day and night fluctuate more than between seasons.

The average annual temperature of the municipality is 10 ° C (see climate chart ), the monthly values ​​vary only slightly between 8 ° C in July and 12 ° C in December. The annual precipitation is less than 600 mm, the monthly rainfall range from less than 10 mm during the months of June to August and about 100 mm in January.
