Lether Frazar

Lether Edward Frazar ( born December 1, 1904 in DeRidder, Louisiana; † May 15, 1960 ) was an American politician. Between 1956 and 1960 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Louisiana.

Career

Until 1928, studied Lether Frazar history at Southwestern Institute. Then he visited in Baton Rouge until 1932, the Louisiana State University. In 1942, he finished a degree in philosophy at Columbia University in New York. In between, he worked in the teaching profession. Until 1938 he led several high schools in Louisiana. From 1938 to 1941 he was president of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. During the Second World War he worked for the Office of Price Administration and became its regional president for Louisiana. In the years 1944 to 1955 he was president of the McNeese College.

Politically, Frazar joined the Democratic Party. Between 1936 and 1940 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Louisiana. He was a follower of Earl Long. In 1956 he was elected to the side of Long Vice Governor of Louisiana. This post he held from 1956 to 1960. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1959 he gave up another candidacy. He died on 15 May 1960 shortly after the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor. With his wife Lilly Hooper he had two daughters.
