List of Alpine peaks by prominence

The list of the most prominent mountains in the Alps leads to all the mountains in the Alps, the saddle height is greater than 1500 meters. Mountains in this category are sometimes referred to as Ultra Prominent peaks.

The Vertical separation or prominence of a summit is the difference from his height and the highest Einschartung (reference notch ) to which you have at least descend to reach a higher peak. This makes it next to the dominance of an objective measure of the independence of a summit.

In addition to the relevant reference Einschartung two mountains are specified:

  • The Prominence master is the reference notch along the ridge curve closest prominent and higher peaks, which can be reached via this saddle without having to descend deeper.
  • The Parent Iceland is the highest peak, which can be reached from the respective reference notch on a path that is higher than this reference notch in its entirety. He is the highest mountain beyond the reference notch, whose own reference notch is lower than the observed peak.
