Livigno Alps

The Livigno Range is a mountain range of the western Eastern Alps, which extends from the Engadine in the east of Switzerland to the west of South Tyrol in northern Italy to the Italian community around Livigno.

Boundary and adjacent mountain ranges

The Livigno Alps are assigned to the Rhaetian Alps.

The group will be limited as follows:

  • In the southwest of the upper Addatal ( Valtellina ) from Bormio to Tirano for Sobretta - Gavia Group
  • In the southwest through the Bernina Pass ( line Tirano in Valtellina - Val di Posciavo ( Poschiavo ) - Bernina Bach - Samedan in the Engadin ) separated from the Bernina group
  • In the northwest separates the upper Engadin ( Samedan - Zernez ) the area of the Albula Alps
  • In the north- east to form the border Sesvennagruppe and Ortlergruppe by the Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps (AVE ) line Zernez - lower Val da Spoel to confluence Ova dal Fuorn to the Sesvenna, Punt dal Gall and from there Valle del Gallo ( western arm of Lago di Livigno ) - Passo di Fraele - Valle di Fraele - Bormio in Valtellina to the Ortler Alps
  • In Switzerland is Zernez - Ofen Pass - Val Müstair ( Munster ) for Sesvennagruppe and Stelvio to the Ortler

Fragmentation of demarcation is the headwaters of the River Adda (Valle di Fraele, Lago di San Giacomo and Cancano Lakes ) with Pizzo di Ferro and Monte di Sumbraida and the Val Mora and Umbrailgruppe part of Livigno, part of the Ortler, part of the Sesvennagruppe, Switzerland thus attributed to the Grison Alps. Until the reorganization of the AVE 1984 also this group was named after the ancient Moriggl classification (ME) from 1924 counted wholly Ortler group.
