Lower Saloum
Lower Saloum is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative divisions - the West African nation of Gambia. It is one of ten districts in the Central River Region.
According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 12 007 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 13,524.
The name is derived from Saloum, a former small kingdom.

Population
According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest ethnic group of the Wolof with a share of around five tenths, followed by the Fula and Mandinka to. The distribution in detail: 15.9% Mandinka, Fula 29.1%, 50.3% Wolof, Jola 0.5%, 0.7 % Serahule, 0.7 % Serer, Aku 0%, 0.5% Manjago, 0.3% and 1.9 % Bambara other ethnicities.
