Niamina East

Niamina East is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative divisions - the West African nation of Gambia. It is one of ten districts in the Central River Region.

According to a calculation by 2013 there live about 21,996 inhabitants, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 19,034.

The name is of Niamina - derived a former small Mandinka empire.

Population

According to a survey of 1993 ( former census ), the largest ethnic group of the Wolof with a share of around four -tenths, followed by the Mandinka and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 27.2% Mandinka, Fula 26.2%, 42.2% Wolof, Jola 0.6 %, 1% Serahule, 0.6 % Serer, Aku 0%, 0.2% Manjago, 0, 4% Bambara and 1.6% other ethnicities.
