Malapalud

Malapalud was until December 31, 2008 a municipality in the district of Gros- de -Vaud in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

January 1, 2009 Malapalud merged with the municipality of Assen Assen to the new community.

Geography

Malapalud is located on 663 m above sea level. M., 2 km south of Echallens and 11 km north of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The small village extends on a plateau of Gros de Vaud, west of talent, at the northwestern edge of the heights of the Jorat, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​0.8 km ² large former municipal area includes a small section of the Vaud Mittelland. The communal land stretched from the headwaters of the talent westward for about 700 m wide plateau of Malapalud, on 676 m above sea level. M. ( Mont Raimond ) the highest elevation is reached. In the north, the border ran along the forest edge of the Bois de la Commune of Echallens. From the municipality surface 1997 4 % came from settlements, 18% of forest and woody plants and 78% to agriculture.

To Malapalud the yard belonged Berchères (650 m above sea level. M. ). Neighboring communities of Malapalud were Echallens, Bottens and Assen.

Population

With 92 inhabitants ( end of 2008) Malapalud was one of the smallest municipalities of the canton of Vaud. Of the 77.1% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking and 14.8 % 6.6 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Malapalud amounted in 1900 to 58 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1990 on 48 people, a slight increase in population was recorded again.

Economy

Malapalud still lives by agriculture, particularly agriculture and animal husbandry. On the grounds of the court Berchères, is operated on the horse breeding, there is a horse racing track. Except in a sawmill there are no other jobs in the village. Some villagers are commuters and work in Echallens.

Traffic

The former municipality is located off of larger thoroughfares, about 1 km away from the main road from Lausanne to Echallens. Malapalud has no connection to the public transport network.

History

The place name is derived from the Latin words mala palus and literally means bad swamp (bad ground in a marshy area ). Malapalud belonged in the Middle Ages to the rule Bottens. After the Burgundian Wars, the village came in 1476 at the Bailiwick Orbe Echallens, which was under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime Malapalud belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Echallens. Malapalud does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Assen.
