Mannes College The New School for Music is the music conservatory of a private university called 'The New School '. The campus of the university is in Greenwich Village (New York City ); the main building of the Mannes College is located in the district of the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

History

The institution was founded in 1916 by David husband (then concertmaster of the New York Symphony Orchestra ) and Clara Damrosch (sister of Walter Damrosch, then conductor of the orchestra ). It was first called 'The man David Music School '. After its establishment, the address of the school was first ' East 70th Street ' (later moved there the ' Dalcroze School ' a ); The campus consisted of three brick buildings on East 74th St in the district of the Upper East Side of Manhattan. After 1938, the school was known as ' man Music School ' ( possibly after David and Clara man had retired from active teaching activities). In 1953 the school, qualifications (degrees) to provide, and changed its name to ' Mannes College of Music. Later it merged with the Chatham Square Music School. In 1984 it moved to its current address on the west to 85th Street.

In 1989, the college became part of The New School; this includes eight schools ( including the Parsons School of Design, the Eugene Lang College and the New School for Drama ). 2005 changed its name to man ' Mannes College the New School for Music'.
