Marco Büchel

Marco Büchel ( * November 4, 1971 in whales city ) is a former skier Liechtenstein.

Career

Büchel denied in January 1991, his first race in the World Cup. It took six years until he was able to place in the top ten of the race for the first time. In the years that his performance was constant and he took multiple second and third places.

The greatest success of his career he was in the 1999 Alpine World Skiing Championships in Vail - Beaver Creek when he was vice world champion in giant slalom behind Norwegian Lasse Kjus. He won four World Cup races. In the season 2002/ 03 Büchel reached the second place in the Super- G World Cup. 2006/ 07 he finished second in the downhill World Cup and reached seventh place his best result in the World Cup.

At Olympic Winter Games Büchel took part so far six times. His best results he achieved in Turin in 2006, as he drove to sixth place in the downhill and super-G at number seven. On November 25, 2006, he broke with his victory in the downhill in Lake Louise Eberharter than hitherto oldest winner of a World Cup race from. After his victory on 18 January 2008 in Kitzbühel, the record was 36 years and 75 days. This record held until 22 January 2011, when Didier Cuche won the downhill in Kitzbuehel.

Raised in Balzers Büchel was eight times elected Liechtenstein Sportsman of the Year. He lives with his wife Doris in Triesenberg and athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play. In addition to the Liechtenstein He also has Swiss nationality.
