Marisa Merz

Marisa Merz ( born 1931 in Turin) is an Italian sculptor and installation artist.

Life and work

Marisa Merz was born in 1931 in Turin, Italy. In the 1950s she married Mario Merz ( 1925-2003 ), one of the main exponents of Arte Povera. She has a daughter with him and lives in Milan.

As a self-taught artist and member of the art movement Arte Povera (Italian for poor art ) to carry objects from fragments of bodies or objects and often uses soft materials such as wax, clay, aluminum, tin foil, copper and industrial hemp. In addition, it is characterized by mixed video technology on hard fibreboard, canvas, wood and paper.
