Melincourt, Haute-Saône

Melincourt is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Melincourt situated at an altitude of 258 m above sea level, 5 km southeast of Vauvillers and about 30 km north of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, on a hill overlooking the mouth of Ruisseau de Horsfontaine in the Superbe.

The area of ​​14.98 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside of the east of the upper Saônetals. From northeast to southwest, the area is crossed by the Alluvialniederung the Superbe, which provides for the drainage Saône. The valley is on average 250 meters and has a width of about one kilometer. In the field of Melincourt the Superbe from the north takes on the Ruisseau de Horsfontaine.

Is flanked on both sides of the lowland plateaus that lie at around 290 m. Agricultural land use predominates here. North of the village, the plateau rises slightly to Haut de Saussis (311 m) and the ridge of Vauvillers. The eastern boundary runs over the crest of Girefontaine. With a narrow tip, the municipality's area extends southward in the extensive forests of Grand Bois and Bois de l' Etang and to the hill of Mont d' Olivette ( to 310 m). In geological- tectonic respects the terrain consists of limestone of the Middle Triassic. In various places, especially in the southern part of the municipality, also occur sandy- marly and calcareous sediments revealed that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ).

Neighboring communities of Melincourt are Vauvillers and Mailleroncourt -Saint- Pancras in the north, and Girefontaine Jasney in the east, Dampierre- lès- Conflans and Saint- Remy in the south and Anchenoncourt -et- Chazel, Polaincourt -et- Clairefontaine and Montdoré in the West.

History

Remains of a Roman road path that led from Luxeuil to Langres, point to an early inspection and settlement of the area. Is first mentioned in the 12th century Melincourt. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Melincourt is the administrative seat of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Belles Sources.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Germain shows buildings from different eras. The chancel dates from the 14th century, while the ship was rebuilt in the 16th century; The facade was modified in the 19th century. Population

With 244 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Melincourt one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1886 549 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Melincourt was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( farming, viticulture and animal husbandry ) and forestry embossed village. Today, there are some establishments of local small businesses, including one company of transport. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Vauvillers after Conflans -sur- Lanterne. Further road links exist with Saint- Remy, Polaincourt and Mailleroncourt -Saint- Pancras.
