Melkus

The Melkus Sportwagen GmbH is an automobile manufacturer from Dresden.

History

The Heinz Melkus KG was a racing and sports car manufacturer in the GDR. It was founded by Heinz Melkus in Dresden and existed from 1959 until 1986.

After the fall of Heinz Melkus in Dresden opened the first BMW dealership in East Germany, meanwhile Lotus is a contractor. After the death of Heinz Melkus 2005, his son Peter and grandson Sepp Melkus Melkus Melkus founded the sports car KG in May 2006. In 2009 it was transformed into a GmbH.

On August 20, 2012 presented the Melkus Sportwagen GmbH in the District Court of Dresden bankruptcy. The sales were not enough to succeed in the market, it said in support of the application for insolvency. According to the insolvency administrator Rademacher, interested parties should have reported.

On January 11, 2013 it was announced that insolvency proceedings have finally failed. The liquidation of the company is thus highly probable.

Models

The first vehicles used Melkus Wartburg -353 engines. Various other parts of the vehicle based on the Trabant and Wartburg production or produced in-house.

The Melkus RS 1000 Melkus built a road-going mid-engine race car based on the Wartburg 353 From this model come to the end of production in 1980, around 100 copies.

Due to the demand from collectors, the newly founded Melkus Sportwagen KG began in 2006 with the production of a limited edition of 15 copies and Heinz Melkus dedicated edition of RS 1000th On 25 November 2006, the first "new" Melkus RS 1000 was celebrated in Dresden Transport Museum handed over to its new owner. Subsequently, the successor model RS2000 was developed which, like its predecessor, a sports coupe with gullwing doors.
