Merzdorf

Merzdorf is a municipality in the Elbe-Elster district in the south of Brandenburg. The community belongs to the Office Schradenland based in the municipality of Val Gardena.

Geography

Merzdorf is the smallest of the four Schrade rural communities and is located in the southeastern part of the district Elbe- Elster in the immediate vicinity of the city Elsterwerda. To Merzdorf part of the district Seifertsmühl.

History

History

Merzdorf, formerly also called Mertensdorf was first mentioned in 1406 as Mertinsdorff. The name means village of the Martin / Mertin.

In 1580 the manor in Merzdorf that was originally in the possession of the Lords of Köckritz sold to the Lord Pflugk to Frauenhain. In 1612 it came into the possession of the family Milkau, 1701, the family acquired Bose. Other owners were the lords of the church Bach (1704), Heinrich von joke Life ( 1708), and 1727 Gottlieb Schmidt, whose family kept it until 1819. Then it was bought by Charles Oberweg, but in 1844 sold it to Baron von Rochow.

The Umpfarrung 1725 applied to Val Gardena was rejected. Ecclesiastical belonged Merzdorf and Seifertsmühl to five kilometers away Frauenhain. The children of Merzdorf and Seifertsmühl were taught in Merzdorf by two teachers.

1827 Hutungspläne were distributed among the 27 owners. For the use of wood in the forest Schrade each Huefner 9 ½ acres of land received in the replacement of these rights in Merzdorfer bush. Larger fires there were in 1832 and 1833. On 1 January 1935, the neighboring Seifertsmühl was incorporated into Merzdorf.

Agriculture has always been the main source of income of the village. Merzdorf and Seifertsmühl still produced in the early 20th century 1,000 t to 3,000 t per year onions, which were mainly sold to the cities in Saxony. However, cucumbers and carrots were grown. The Barbican Karl Born was also called half a mile, because it's just so far away from Merzdorf.

Leisure

In Merzdorf there is a swimming pool, which could be obtained as a single in the vicinity over the years. The swimming pool was built in the 60s ( Year 1967/1968 ) on the grounds of a bog. Despite the difficulties that led to the muddy and boggy ground year after year with it, the pool was always repaired and developed.
