Mohawk Valley Comets (ACHL)

The Mohawk Valley Comets were an American ice hockey franchise of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League from Utica, New York.

History

The franchise took to the 1981/82 season under the name Mohawk Valley Stars as one of seven founding members of the gaming operations in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League on. The team filled the gap left by the From Utica Mohawks who had competed from 1978 to 1980 in the Eastern Hockey League, was established. In its premiere season, the Stars took second place after the regular season and eventually won in the playoffs the Bob Payne Trophy as ACHL Master. In the following years the team always belonged to the middle of the league in 1985 and changed its name in reference to a former franchise in the North American Hockey League from Utica Mohawk Valley Comets.

After the Atlantic Coast Hockey League was disbanded following the 1986/87 season, presented the Mohawk Valley Comets a game operation. Professional hockey was finally resumed in Utica from 1987 by the Utica Devils of the American Hockey League.
