Molochansk

Molotschansk (Ukrainian Молочанськ; Russian Молочанск, formerly German Halbstadt ) is a small town located in the Zaporizhia Oblast in the south-central Ukraine on the river Molotschna, about 78 kilometers southeast of Zaporizhia southwest of the city Tokmak.

History

The place with good today 7,000 inhabitants (2013 ) was established as part of a long-range Landi property name in 1804 by Mennonites who came from West Prussia and named by them Halbstadt. The Mennonite Molotschna settlement included until its dissolution still 56 more villages in the south and west of the village. 1928 place in Russian sound whose names Molotschansk has been renamed. During the German occupation in World War II Molotschansk bore the name Halbstadt again and was the capital of the district Halbstadt within the Reich Commissariat Ukraine. The German population in 1943 was evacuated to the Warthegau and distributed not later than the reconquest of territory by the Red Army and by force to Siberia relocated Kazakhstan ( Karaganda region ) and Kyrgyzstan.
