Kamianka-Dniprovska

Kamianka - Dniprowska (Ukrainian Кам'янка - Дніпровська; Russian Каменка-Днепровская/Kamenka-Dneprowskaja ) is a small city in the Zaporizhia Oblast in the south-central Ukraine and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons with about 13,500 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geography

The city is located about 135 kilometers southeast of Zaporizhia on accumulated for Kachowkaer reservoir Dnepr. On the opposite shore of the lake to the north is the town of Nikopol.

History

The town was founded in 1786 as Mala Snamjanka (Ukrainian Мала Знам'янка ), 1920 in Kamianka na Dnipri (Ukrainian Кам'янка на Дніпрі ) and 1944 renamed to its present name. During the German occupation in the Second World War the town Kamenka was called and was the capital of the district Kamenka within the Reich Commissariat Ukraine. In 1957 to the place of the city status was awarded.
