Orikhiv
Orichiw (Ukrainian Оріхів; Russian Орехов / Orekhov ) is a city in the Zaporizhia Oblast in southern Ukraine and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons. It has about 15,500 inhabitants ( 2013).
Location
The city is situated on the left bank of the river Kinská, about 57 kilometers southeast of Zaporizhia. The Sea of Azov in Berdyansk in the southeast there are about 100 km, to Melitopol in the south about 70 km.
History
The town was founded in 1783 as a Sloboda ( " Free City " ) for military personnel and builder of the fortress Dneprower line. As early as 1801 it became a town, this status was renewed in 1938. The city was a center of Mennonites in the Russian Empire.
