Montérégie

Montérégie is an administrative region (French région administrative ) south of the Canadian province of Quebec.

It is further into 14 regional county municipalities ( municipalites Clarisse de comté ) and 179 divided communities and reserves. Named after the region is the Montérégie hills.

The population is 1,456,743 (2011), the land area of ​​11,110.8 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 131.1 inhabitants per km ². 91.8 % of residents speak French and 6.9 % English as the main language.

In the south, bordering Montérégie to the U.S. states Vermont and New York, on the west by the province of Ontario, on the northwest by the Administrative Region of Laurentides, north of Montreal and Lanaudière.

Management

In contrast to most other administrative regions of Montérégie has no single, overarching management structure for the entire region, but is divided into three areas, each with a regional ( conférence régional of Elu );

  • CRE de Longueuil: The five unaffiliated in a MRC municipalities, equivalent to the agglomeration of Longueuil. Council is based in Longueuil.
