National Movement for Stability and Progress

The National Movement for Stability and Progress ( Bulgarian Национално движение за стабилност и възход or Nacionalno dviženie za stabilnost i văzhod, short NDSW, NDS or NDS II) is a liberal party in Bulgaria. By 2007 the party was known as the National Movement Simeon the Second ( Bulgarian Национално Движение Симеон Втори or Nacionalno Dviženie Simeon Vtori ). She is a member of the ELDR and ALDE.

It was founded in 2001 by the Spanish exile living up to that point in the Bulgarian monarch Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha Ex and won in the 2001 parliamentary elections, half the seats (120 out of 240 seats in parliament ). During her reign, she formed a coalition with the Turkish minority party DPS. The reign was marked by the convergence of Bulgaria both to the EU and NATO and Russia and a liberal economic policies. The party belongs to the former EU Commissioner Meglena Kuneva. Among the founding members was the singer Nora Nova.

In the parliamentary elections on 25 June 2005, it lost its majority, however, remained the strongest force in parliament. However, they were under pressure from the DPS from the government mandate, nevertheless, remained in the government under the mandate of the ex-Communists ( the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP briefly ) involved in a three-way coalition with the DPS. 2007, several deputies were expelled from the party. Together with other members who voluntarily left the party, they first founded the parliamentary group BND ( Българска нова демокрация / Balgarska Nowa Demokracija = Bulgarian New Democracy ) and a same party in May 2008.

In the parliamentary elections on 5 July 2009, the party failed because of the electoral threshold of 4 percent. Since then she is no deputies in the Bulgarian Parliament more. Sakskoburggotski then stepped down as party chairman.
