Nationwide Series

The NASCAR Nationwide Series is an American stock car motor racing series. It is considered a " second division " of the NASCAR Sprint Cup behind and for many drivers the springboard in the Sprint Cup. While in the Sprint Cup since the 2008 season, only the Car of Tomorrow is used, is still used in the Nationwide Series, the old chassis. In addition, the engine performance in the Nationwide Series is significantly lower than in the Sprint Cup.

History

The NASCAR Nationwide Series came from the old " Sportsman Division " of NASCAR, which was planned in the 1950s as " short-track " racing series. In 1968, the series was given the name " Late Model Sportsman" and you also started racing on major routes such as the Daytona International Speedway to drive. The drivers use cars Grand National (now Sprint Cup) cars. It V6 engines were used.

Today's Nationwide Series was established in 1982. From 1982 to 1983 she first wore the name " Budweiser Late Model Sportsman Series", but was renamed in 1984 " Busch Grand National Series ". 1994 should be the last year in which the V6 engines are used, although some teams use the V6 engines in 1995 in " short-track " a race. From the 1995 season the cars were then (now Sprint Cup) adapted more and more to the vehicles of the Winston Cup. Since the 2004 season, the " Grand National " no longer belonged to the series title, thus the series was officially " NASCAR Busch Series ." For the 2008 season the renaming succeeded in " NASCAR Nationwide Series ". The underlying contract with the new title sponsor, the insurance company Nationwide Insurance, has a term of seven years.

On 5 March 2005, the Nationwide Series outside the U.S. drove her first race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City, Mexico. The race was won by Martin Truex Jr., was the champion in the same season Nationwide Series.

Since the start of the 2007 season, ESPN will broadcast the race in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in the USA, replacing FOX, FX, NBC and TNT from.

On 2 July 2010, only vehicles of a new generation came at Daytona International Speedway for the first time use, similar to the Car of Tomorrow, the Sprint Cup.

Buschwhackers

As " Buschwhackers " refers to drivers who also compete in the Nationwide Series next to the Sprint Cup. The name goes back to the time when the Nationwide Series Busch Series said. Since the founding of the Nationwide Series there have always been rider of the then Winston Cup, now Sprint Cup, which took advantage of their free day to even compete in the Nationwide Series. Many drivers justify this by saying that they'll know the track better if you start the race in the Sprint Cup next day. The disadvantage is that the full-time driver in the Nationwide Series thus hardly have a chance to win a race around with it to apply for a Sprint Cup place.

Mark Martin, who has been active for decades in the Winston Cup, now Sprint Cup, is one of the most famous Buschwhacker. He drove a total of 224 races in the Nationwide Series and took it 47 wins, which up to now represents the record. Kevin Harvick is also a well-known Buschwhacker. He drove in 2006 despite years of Sprint Cup experience again a full season in the Nationwide Series and won ultimately superior to the title.

Also in the 2007 season, despite a new Car of Tomorrow in the Sprint Cup still many Buschwhacker. In some races there are 2007 20 Carl Edwards, also Buschwhacker, won the championship with 618 points ahead of David Reutimann.
