North Darfur

Schamal Darfur (Arabic شمال دارفور, German North Darfur ) is a state of Sudan.

It has an area of 296,420 km ², a population of 1,583,179 inhabitants ( 2006 calculation ) and Al - Fasher, the capital.

Geography

Schamal Darfur consists mainly of dry savannah. The Northeast is almost deserted, so that in recent decades, the growing area was extended for millet to the north by the increasing population pressure and after some rainier years. Then In the following years of drought led to famine, as was blown away due to the removal of the near- natural vegetation and the conversion into arable land by deflation part of the fertile soil; the result is an expansion of desert and semi- desert areas.

History

From 1919 to 1974, the area that is now the state of Darfur Schamal belonged to the province of Darfur. In 1974, the province Schamal Darfur was split off and covered the area of present-day Schamal Darfur and the northern part of West Darfur. From 1991 to 1994, the territory of Darfur Schamal again belonged to the newly created state of Darfur, the possible within the limits of the province of Darfur from 1919 to 1974. Were on 14 February 1994 then again Schamal Darfur Darfur split, this time as a federal state and not the northern part of West Darfur.

Economy

Schamal Darfur's economy is based primarily on subsistence agriculture ( rainfed ) with cereals, fruit and tobacco farming and livestock.
