(Eng. North Queensland ), also called North Queensland Northern Region is the northern part of the Australian state of Queensland. North Queensland is relatively remote and sparsely populated in comparison to southern Queensland. The climate is subtropical and hotter than in southern Queensland. In particular, this applies to Tropical North Queensland, the tropical northern part. Thus, the country has developed its own regional character and its own identity.

Townsville is the largest urban center of North Queensland, and therefore is considered the unofficial capital. The region had in 2010 a population of 231 628 people and lasted about 80041.5 km ².

Geography

There is no official boundaries, the North Queensland separates from the rest of the state of Queensland. Unofficially, is usually assumed that its southern border in the south of the Mackay region is, however, historically it was far to the south of Rockhampton. Farther north is the Far North Queensland region, centered around Cairns and ranges in the west to the Gulf Region Country.

A coastal region centered around Townsville, the largest city in the region. State of North Queensland
