Geography

The community Offenberg with the districts Book Mountain, Offenberg and Penzenried lies on the Danube and the Danube- forest.

History

The history of the community starts early: Some parts of the community, such as small Schwarzach and Hötzmann should already have been settled by the Celts. The modern history begins with the founding of the local part of Neuhausen by monks of the nearby monastery of Metten in the 9th or 10th century.

Offenberg long belonged to the Counts of King field. The village was part of the Electorate of Bavaria and formed a closed Hofmark whose seat was Castle Offenberg. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818 the municipality Offenberg.
