Oleg Romanishin

Oleh Mychajlowytsch Romanyschyn (Ukrainian Олег Михайлович Романишин, often in the Russian form of the name Oleg Romanishin; born January 10, 1952 in Lviv ) is a Ukrainian chess player and Grandmaster since 1976.

During the Soviet era, the Grand Master for many years was one of the strongest players of his country. He regularly attended the discharged annually Soviet individual championships. This tournament was in the chess world as by far the strongest and toughest competition of its kind, and already qualified for the competition was regarded as proof of absolute world class of a chess player.

Romanyschyn first represented the Soviet Union and later Ukraine in numerous international competitions as a national player. He won in 1978 with the USSR and then in 1996 with the Ukraine received silver medal at the Chess Olympiad in Buenos Aires and in Yerevan. These are still two bronze medals at the Olympic Games in 1998 joined in Elista and 2000 in Istanbul, this time for Ukraine. At victories in major international tournaments came Romanyschyn 1969 in Antwerp, 1975 in Novi Sad, 1976 in Yerevan and in Dortmund, 1977 in Hastings and Cienfuegos and Leningrad and Malgrat de Mar, 1979 in Gausdal, 1980 in Polanica, 1981 in Lviv, 1983 in Jurmala, 1985 in Moscow, 1985/86 in Reggio Emilia.
