Ōshū, Iwate

Ōshū (Japanese奥 州市, -shi ) is a city in Iwate Prefecture on Honshu, the main island of Japan. The name is the short form of the province of Mutsu.

History

The city Ōshū was on 20 February 2006 from the cities Mizusawa (水 沢 市, -shi) and Esashi (江 刺 市, -shi), as well as the communities Maesawa (前 沢 町, chō ) and Isawa (胆 沢 町, chō ) as well as the village Koromogawa (衣 川村, -mura ) of the district Isawa founded.

Geography

Ōshū located south of Morioka and north of Sendai.

The Kitakami flows through the city from north to south.
