Osun State

Osun ( Osun ) is a state of Nigeria, with its capital Oshogbo and the holy city of Ife Yoruba.

Geography

The state is located in the southwest of the country, bordered to the north by the state of Kwara, to the south by Ogun State, on the west by Oyo State, in the northeast of the state of Ekiti and to the southeast by the Ondo State.

History

The state was formed on August 27, 1991 from a part of Oyo State. First administrator was between August 1991 and January 1992 Lapade Ajiborisha. Current governor since May 29, 2003 Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

Management

The state is divided into 30 Local Government Areas. These are: Aiyedire, Atakunmosa East, West Atakunmosa, Ayedire, Boluwaduro, Boripe, Ede North, Ede South, Central Efe, Efe East, North Efe, Efe South, Egbedore, Ejigbo, Ifedayo, Ifelodun, Ila, Ilesha East, Ilesha West, Irepodun, Irewole, Isokan, Iwo, Obokun, Odo - Otin, Ola - Oluwa, Olorunda, Oriade, Orolu and Oshogbo.

Economy

Agriculture and mining are among the most important economic sectors in Osun. There are cocoa, coconuts, corn, yams, maize, cassava, millet, bananas and rice cultivated and promoted gold, clay, limestone and granite. On industrial goods, among others, steel, machine tools, and petroleum products are made.
