Owen Willans Richardson

Owen Willans Richardson ( born April 26, 1879 in Dewsbury, † February 15, 1959 in Alton ( Hampshire) ) was an English physicist.

After graduating in 1900 in Cambridge, he worked in the field of thermionic effect at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University. There he found 1901 Richardson equation, for which he was awarded the 1928 Nobel Prize in Physics. He continued his work on the subject until 1906 in Cambridge continued.

In 1906 he was appointed professor of physics at Princeton University. In the same year he married Lilian Maud Wilson. From this marriage two sons and a daughter were born. After the death of his wife in 1945 he married in 1948 the physicist Henriette Rupp.

1930, the Royal Medal of the Royal Society awarded him.
