Paul Fenton (ice hockey)

Paul John Fenton ( born December 22, 1959 in Springfield, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player. During his career he played for the Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings, Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League. He is currently working as an Assistant General Manager of the Nashville Predators.

Career

Fenton first played for four years from 1978 to 1982 at Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association without shine with great performances. Ungedraftet he joined the 1982/83 season in the International Hockey League with the Peoria Prancer. There he impressed with a 111 -point season, which earned him a nomination for the Second All-Star team in the league and winning the Ken McKenzie Trophy for the best American rookie. The Maple Leafs sent him after only three months to the Washington Capitals, the further transferred him to the Calgary Flames on the same day. Thus Fenton stood during the 1990/91 season with four NHL franchises under contract and ran on for three of these. In August 1991, Fenton moved again. This time back to the Hartford Whalers, but sent him shortly after the start of the season to the San Jose Sharks newly established. There he finished after the 1991/92 season at the age of 32 years of his career.

After his playing career end pledged him the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim as a scout. In this position he remained for three years before he was appointed chief scout. During his five year tenure in Anaheim, he was involved among other things, the obligations of Paul Kariya and Steve Rucchin via Drafts and Teemu Selanne of. For the 1998/99 season Fenton took over the post of player personnel director at the newly established Nashville Predators, he exercised for eight years. Prior to 2006/ 07, on 5 June 2006 he was promoted to assistant general manager.

Internationally

Fenton participated with the U.S. national team at the World Ice Hockey Championships in 1985 and 1989. A medal he could not win it. Overall, he played 19 games in which he recorded seven points.

His son PJ is also ice hockey player and was in the fifth round, selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2005 162 position by the San Jose Sharks, the last NHL club his father.
