Pérenchies

Pérenchies is a city in France, in Greater Lille, near the Belgian border. It has 8196 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) on an area of ​​three square kilometers. Many residents have an immigrant background.

History

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1101. It is probable that centuries earlier already a Celtic settlement.

The community lived mainly from agriculture, and 1836 with a large textile factory industrialization began.

During the First World War the town was occupied in October 1914 by German troops, who set up a base camp for the front line just 2 km away here. Until October 1918 Pérenchies was liberated.

Roger Dutriez (* 1926, † October 2009) was mayor from 1971 to 1995, after he was in 1953 elected to the City Council. During his tenure, the twinning was signed with Overath. He pursued this friendship even active, for example, through the establishment of the association Les amis d' Overath in his hometown. Due to his commitment, he was named an honorary citizen in both cities, also raised in France, a Knight of the National Order of Merit.
