Plzeň-South District
Okres Plzeň- jih, German Plzeň -South, is a district in the Czech Republic and is situated in western Bohemia.
The Okres Plzeň- jih 990 square kilometers and counts 58,000 inhabitants in 90 municipalities. It was created in 1960 by the amalgamation of the district Blovice with seven other sub-districts. The district does not have a county seat, the seat of administration is Plzeň. In the area there are five micro-regions: Nepomucko, Přešticko, Radbuza, Radyně and Úslava.
Raw materials there are in the district hardly. Among the important industries include food manufacturers, ceramic plants, mechanical and electrical engineering. In agriculture, grain, potatoes and beets are grown and bred cattle, pigs and poultry. The unemployment rate is 4.9 %.
Due to the low environmental impact, and the rural character of the area attracts tourists. Particularly worth seeing are:
- Castle Nebílovy
- The ruins of a Gothic castle Vlčtejn and the built in pseudo -Renaissance castle Žinkovy
- Přeštice with Baroque Church of the Assumption
- Chotěšov with the Premonstratensian monastery of the 13th century
- In Mitov, Lipnice and Řesanice try out the typical and historic monuments of folk architecture
Every year, Pilsen-south about 22,000 guests ( 30 % foreigners). The average length of stay is 4.2 days.
On 1 January 2007, the city of Stary Plzenec and the communities Chválenice, Letkov, Lhůta, Losiná, Mokrouše, Nezbavětice, Nezvěstice, Šťáhlavy, Štěnovický Borek and Tymákov in the Okres Plzeň -město changed. To add district municipalities Borovy and Nezdice came from the Okres Klatovy.
