Polyarnye Zori

Poljarnyje Sori (Russian Полярные Зори ) is a town in Murmansk Oblast (Russia) with 15,096 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located on the Kola Peninsula beyond the Arctic Circle about 225 km south of the Oblasthauptstadt Murmansk along the right bank of the opening into the White Sea Niwa River, between the south end of the Imandrasees whose drain it represents, and the lake Pinosero.

Poljarnyje Sori is the Oblast subordinated administratively directly.

The city lies on the Murmansk railway opened in 1917, a now to October Railway RZD belonging railway from St. Petersburg to Murmansk ( 1198 kilometer ). The highway M18 Saint Petersburg- Severomorsk bypasses Poljarnyje Sori west.

History

Poljarnyje Sori was done in 1968 during the construction of the Kola nuclear power plant as urban-type settlement. In 1991, the place, the city law. The name is in Russian for Polarmorgenröten ( sori is the plural of sarja, Dawn).

The now belongs to the city with the same name place Afrikanda station on the southeast shore of Imandrasees was founded in 1932.

Economy

About 20 kilometers north of the city center is located on the western shore of the Imandrasees operated by RosEnergoAtom Kola nuclear power plant. There are also companies in the construction and the timber industry.
