Professional Hockey Writers' Association
The Professional Hockey Writers' Association ( PHWA short ) is a Federation of Journalists, the professional North American journalists who report for the major daily newspapers, magazines, websites and television about hockey represents. The headquarters of the PHWA is located in the U.S. West Orange, New Jersey. At the beginning of the season 2009/10, more than 400 journalists member of the organization. History
The association was founded in 1967. The journalists of the PHWA choose among themselves the winners of most of the trophies that are determined annually by the National Hockey League awarded to the best hockey player of the year (since 1983 as part of the NHL Awards). They also determine by the award of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award, which is named after a Canadian sports journalist, journalists from those that are included in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
