Quentin Bryce

Lady Quentin Alice Louise Bryce AD CVO ( born December 23, 1942 in Brisbane, Queensland) is an Australian lawyer and politician. Until 28 March 2014, it was Governor-General of Australia.

Life

Quentin Bryce grew along with three siblings in south-west Queensland. Her father Norman Strachan oversaw wool processing machinery. Her higher education she received in Brisbane, where she in 1965 at the University of Queensland completed a law degree. In the same year she was admitted as only the third woman in Queensland as a barrister. From 1968 to 1983 she taught law at the University of Queensland and was the first woman in the history of the university. 1984 Bryce was the first director of the Women's Information Center, a facility of the Office for Women's Affairs of Queensland. In 1987 she became head of the Commission on Human Rights and Equality. From 1989 to 1993 she served as Director of the Australian Federal Office for Equality. From 1993 to 1996 she was the first director of the National Childcare Accreditation Council - sites. From 1997 to 2003 she directed The Women's College, University of Sydney.

2003 Quentin Bryce was appointed on the advice of Peter Beattie, the former Prime Minister of the State, by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the Governor of Queensland and has been doing the second woman, who was this taken office wear.

On 13 April 2008, the Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, as a Queenslander, announced her appointment as Governor-General of Australia. In this office she was sworn in as the first woman and successor of Major General Michael Jeffery on September 5, 2008.

In 1964 she married the present Professor Michael Bryce, with whom she has two daughters and three sons.
