Räckelwitz

Räckelwitz, Sorbian Worklecy, is a municipality in Upper Lusatia in Saxony. She is a member of the Management Association of Am Kloster water ( Zarjadniski Zwjazk " PRI Klóšterskej Wodze "). The place Räckelwitz itself has 504 inhabitants and is situated in the Sorbian settlement area core. In 2001, 61.9 % of the residents of the community of Sorbian were powerful.

Geography and transport

The community is located about 8 km east of the city Kamenz and about 15 km northwest of Bautzen in the south of the " low country " ( Delany ) of the former Convent of St. Mary Star Care. The A4 is accessible via the Uhyst connection (about 6 km). The municipality is located in the western Upper Lusatia on the edge of West Lusatian hill and mountain country, in the transition between the shallow pond landscape in the north and the Lusatian mountains in the south. East of the place Räckelwitz flows past the monastery of water, a tributary of the Black Elster.

Description: there are two breastplate on the first partition on the two split crest in blue, red and white with the red Maltese Cross. Right in white a red oblique six- pound bar and left in gold a bouncing black deer.

The use of the Sorbian tricolor shows the anchoring of the community in the Sorbian Catholic heartland at the monastery of water.

History

Räckelwitz was first mentioned in documents as Rokolewicz in 1280. Since the year 1304 here was a manor. The last owner of this estate, Countess Monika of Stolberg, the estate bequeathed to the Order of Malta. In the period from 1903 to 2000 then was in the former manor house is a Catholic hospital this Order. Now is there a large ambulatory care service and a sister convent of the Sisters of Divine Providence with chapel.

Population

According to the census of 2011, there were at this time of 1,118 inhabitants, 921 Roman Catholic ( 82.4 % ), 75 Protestant (6.7%) and 122 belonged to another or no religion at ( 10.9%).

Attractions

  • Manor house

Baroque mansion with nine axles and a staircase. Noteworthy is the castle chapel in the style of Beuronese art school. In the mansion, a hospital was established there for several 10,000 people were born. The buildings of the 20th century were removed in 2009. In the garden house the sisters live of Divine Providence ( Divine Providence ), who worked until her retirement in the hospital.
