Radstadt Tauern

The Radstadt Tauern are a subgroup of the Central Alps in the Austrian eastern Alps. Together with the Schladming Tauern, the Rottenmanner and Wölzer Tauern and the Seckauer Tauern Radstadt Tauern form the large group of Lower Tauern. The mountain is located in the eastern part of the Austrian province of Salzburg between the headwaters of the rivers Enns and Mur.

Geography

Location

The Radstadt Tauern forming the westernmost part of the Low Tauern. They border on the southwest by the Hohe Tauern Mountains, on the northwest by the Pongau and on the east by the Schladming Tauern. It is named after the town of Radstadt in the Enns Valley.

Adjacent Mountain Ranges

The Radstadt Tauern border on the following mountain groups in the Alps:

  • Schladming Tauern (to the east )
  • Nock ( in the southeast )
  • Ankogelgroup and Hafner group ( in the west)
  • Salzburg Slate Alps ( in the north)

Boundary

After the Alpine Club classification of the Eastern Alps, the group is bounded by the following line in a clockwise direction: Wagrainer stream from the confluence with the River Salzach - Wagrainer height - Litzlingbach to confluence with the Enns - Enns to Radstadt - Northern Taurachtal - Obertauern - Southern Taurachtal - Mauterndorf - Neuseß - Mur - Murtörl - Kreealpenbach - Großarlbach to flows into the Salzach - Salzach River to confluence Wagrainer Bach.

Traffic

The Radstadt Tauern be crossed at its eastern edge of Radstadt Tauern Pass (1738 m above sea level. A. ) and passes under since about 1970 through the tunnel in the Tauern motorway ( A10). In the north and south of the mountain range running the railways and major roads of the top Enns and Murtal.

Summit

The highest peaks are the Weisseck ( 2711 m above sea level. A. ), the Hochfeind ( 2687 m above sea level. A. ) and the Mosermandl ( 2680 m above sea level. A. ).

Ski Resorts

The skiläuferische use of the Radstadt Tauern focuses around to Obertauern and the ski areas in the north and northwest, about Altenmarkt or Flachau. The Radstadt Tauern are also well known as ski touring terrain, many of the Gnadenalm use as a starting point.
