Ralph R. Harding

Ralph R. Harding ( born September 9, 1929 in Malad City, Oneida County, Idaho; † October 26, 2006 in Blackfoot, Idaho ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party and member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the state of Idaho.

Biography

After schooling Harding initially joined the U.S. Army and rose during his participation in the Korean War 1951-1953 to lieutenant on. On his return completed Harding, an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons ), a study of agricultural science at Brigham Young University, the University of the confessional Mormons in Provo, Utah.

His political career began Harding from 1955 to 1956 as a member of the House of Representatives from Idaho. In the congressional elections of 1960 he ran against the incumbent Republican congressman for ten years Hamer H. Budge and won with 51.1 percent, a majority of 4,000 votes. In 1962, his re- election as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. However, he was in the 1964 congressional elections, the few Democratic congressmen who were not re-elected in spite of the country's electoral victory of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson. Consequently, it took from 3 January 1961 to 3 January 1965 2 electoral district of Idaho House of Representatives.

After his election defeat Harding became the special assistant to the Air Force Secretaries of State ( Secretary of the Air Force) Eugene M. Zuckert and later appointed Harold Brown. For congressional election in 1966 he was nominated as the Democratic candidate for one of the two Senate seats Idaho. However, he was defeated in the election to the Republican incumbent Len Jordan. He then retired for several years out of politics. In 1970 he was elected for Idaho in the Democratic National Committee. His efforts to run again in the second election district in the midterm elections in 1978 failed already in the Democratic primary.

After Harding was active in several sectors, including between 1979 and 1981 District Vice President of EF Hutton & Co. stockbroker and 1982-1988 representative of the Philippine sugar industry. He also sought the establishment of an Asian version of the National Basketball Association.

Harding died at the age of 77 years in Blackfoot. His grave is in the cemetery of his native town of Malad City.
