Orval H. Hansen

Orval Howard Hansen ( born August 3, 1926 in Firth, Bingham County, Idaho ) is a former American politician. Between 1969 and 1975 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Idaho in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years

Orval Hansen attended the public schools in Idaho Falls. From 1944 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Navy. Later he was a member of the Reserve of the U.S. Air Force. Until 1950 he studied at the University of Idaho and then to 1954 at the George Washington University law. Then he continued his education at the University of London continued in England. Between 1956 and 1968, Hansen worked as a lawyer.

Political career

Orval Hansen was a member of the Republican Party. In the years 1956, 1958, 1960 and 1964, he was elected to the House of Representatives from Idaho. From 1961 to 1962 he was leader of the Republicans. In the same year, he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House of Representatives. 1966 Orval Hansen was a member of the State Senate.

He was elected in the second district of Idaho in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1968, where he replaced George V. Hansen on January 3, 1969. After two re- elections he could implement his mandate in Congress until January 3, 1975. For the elections of 1974 he was nominated by his party not get updated anymore. His seat fell again to George Hansen.

After the end of his political activity Orval Hansen again worked as a lawyer. In 1977, he was founder and president of the Columbia Institute for Political Research. Hansen is married to June Duncan from England, with whom he has seven children. The couple live in Idaho Falls. His son Jim is also politicians and ran unsuccessfully in 2006 for the U.S. House of Representatives, but as a member of the Democrats.
