Randy Smith (ice hockey)

Randolph William Smith ( * July 7, 1965 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player and coach, who played in his playing days from 1982 to 2000 among others for the Minnesota North Stars of the National Hockey League.

Career

Randy Smith began his career as a hockey player with the Battleford Barons, where he was active in the 1982/83 season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. Then he played from 1983 to 1986 for the Saskatoon Blades and Calgary Wranglers in the top junior Western Hockey League played. Towards the end of the 1985/86 season was the center made ​​his debut for the Minnesota North Stars of the National Hockey League. In his only NHL game use the time he was spot - and with impunity. There he first played in the 1994/95 season for the Peterborough Pirates of the British Hockey League. Then he moved within the BHL to the Cardiff Devils, with which he participated in the 1996/97 season at the Ice Hockey Superleague newly established. In this he played in the 1997/98 season for Newcastle Cobras. Most recently, he appeared from 1998 to 2000 for the Peterborough Pirates of the second-rate British National League in before he ended his career at the age of 35 years. In the seasons 1994 and 1995 he also participated with the St. Louis Vipers at the professional inline hockey league Roller Hockey International, which was in contrast to the Hockey held in the summer.

From 2000 to 2003, Smith was active as an assistant coach for the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League. For the season 2003/ 04 he was promoted to head coach of the team, with which he eliminated in the first playoff round at the end of the season.

Internationally

For Canada, Smith took part in the World Championships in 1991 and 1992, and the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville. In the 1992 FIFA World Cup in 1991 and the Winter Games he won with his team the silver medal each.
