Raúl Grijalva

Raúl Grijalva ( born February 19, 1948 in Tucson, Arizona) is an American politician. Since 2003 he represents the seventh constituency of the State of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Raúl Grijalva, whose father had immigrated from Mexico in 1945, attended by 1967 the Sunnyside High School. He then studied at the University of Arizona sociology. Between 1974 and 1986 he was a member of the school board of the school district of Tucson. From 1975 to 1986 he was director of the El Pueblo Neighborhood Center. Grivalja is a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1989 and 2002 it belonged to the district council (Board of Supervisors ) in Pima County. Since 2000, he served as its chairman district in this district.

Congressman

In the congressional elections of 2002, Grijalva was elected as a candidate of his party with 59% of the vote against Ross blow by the Republican Party for the newly seventh constituency of Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives. There he took up his mandate on 3 January 2003. For the years 2004, 2006 and 2008 elections, he was confirmed, each with over 60% of votes in this office. His current term of office runs until 3 January 2011. Grivalja is a member of the Committee on Education and Labor and the Committee for the control of natural resources ( Committee on Natural Resources ). He is regarded as liberal and is committed to protecting the environment.

With his wife Ramona Raúl Grijalva has three daughters.
