Redemption Song

Redemption Song (English for " Redemption Song " ) is the last piece on Bob Marley's ninth music album, Uprising. At the time when he wrote this piece ( circa 1979 ), cancer was diagnosed in Marley already, who was responsible for his later death. According to his wife Rita Marley Marley suffered in 1979 already severe pain without the post, however, and busied himself with his own mortality. This is evident in the whole album, but especially in this piece.

The music

Marley became world known as a pioneer of reggae music from Jamaica. However, the piece Redemption Song belongs to enter the area of Folk Music. In contrast to most of his other songs Redemption song was recorded as a solo, in which Marley sings alone and accompanies herself with an acoustic guitar. On the reissue of Uprising of 2001, and on the compilation One Love: The Very Best of Bob Marley & the Wailers song was released in a band version as a bonus track of the Redemption. However, the solo version is the best known, most listeners.

Comes As with most of his plays in Redemption Song Marley Rastafari religious belief as expressed. Marley calls also to free themselves from self-imposed constraints.

2004 Redemption Song by Rolling Stone magazine was voted number 66 of the top 500 songs.

The song was interpreted by a large group of very different artists. Among them we can highlight: Johnny Cash, Rihanna, Manfred Mann's Earth Band, Jackson Browne, Outlandish, Lauryn Hill, Arrested Development, U2, Cast, Fury in the Slaughterhouse, Joe Strummer, Sinéad O'Connor, Attaque 77 in Spanish, Life of Agony, Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews Band, Majek Fashek, Christy Moore, Ian Brown, Pearl Jam, Ben Harper, Keller Williams, Sweet Honey in the Rock, No Use for a Name, Chris Cornell, Amparanoia, Hapa, Marley's son Ziggy (together with the Irish band the Chieftains ), Tanita Tikaram Moodswings with (a mixture with the spiritual " Oh Happy Day " ), Ms. Dynamite, Napoleon Dynamite, and Annie Lennox, this version led in Edinburgh as part of the Live 8 event on.

• At the concert America: A Tribute to Heroes, which was performed at the events of September 11, 2001, following, Wyclef Jean sang the song, wrapped in an American flag.
• One of the most idiosyncratic interpretations is that of the Jewish preacher "Mi Chamocha " which speaks of the expulsion of the Jews from Egypt, while accompanied by the music of Redemption Song.
• In the outro of the information published by the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert on DVD on August 23, 2003 ( Live At Slane Castle) is a version of Joe Strummer, co-founder of the band The Clash, played.
• End of 2006, singer Pink sang the song live in Europe on her I'm Not Dead Tour.
• The Redemption song is performed live by the Irish songwriter Gary Og.

• After the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, the singer Justin Timberlake rearranged the song for Rihanna. She sang the song already on their Rihanna: Live in Concert Tour 2006.
• Youssou N'Dour played the song together with Tyrone Downie, former keyboardist for Bob Marley And The Wailing Wailers at the Africa Festival 2010 in Würzburg.
• After both Johnny Cash, and Joe Strummer had recorded several versions of the song, they took him in 2002 as a duet. Shortly after both artists died, her song was released posthumously on Johnny Cash's Unearthed box set.

Evidence

The title Redemption Song has been widely used, especially in the African- American context. A biography Joe Strummer also entitled Redemption Song. The reggae band Toots & the Maytals released in 1973 on their album Funky Kingston a song titled Redemption Song.
