Rekingen (Swiss German: rækχiŋ ː ə ) is a municipality in the district of the Swiss canton of Aargau Zurzach. It is located on the High Rhine on the border with Germany.

Geography

The village on the northern edge of the Jura extends in an east-west direction in the narrow plain along the Rhine. Both the western and the eastern end of the village there is an extensive factory facilities. From south to north, the narrow and in places up to 120 meters deep gorge of Chrüzlibachs runs. To the east of Canyon is the 556 meter high Güggehübuck, the west of the 545 meter high Obergrüt. Both hills are extremely steep at the bottom and be fairly flat at the top.

Approximately half a kilometer south of the village branches off a short tributary from the west. There, on the southern slope of Obergrüt, there is an extended quarry. This provided the raw material for the now disused cement factory on the eastern edge of the village. The transport of the mined material was carried out by a 1.3 km long conveyor belt. This first runs high above the gorge and then through a 900 meter-long tunnel under the northern tip of the Güggehübucks through.

The area of the municipality is 310 hectares, of which 178 hectares are forested and built over 79 hectares. The highest point is 556 meters on the plateau of Guggenhübucks, the deepest at 323 meters on the Rhine.

Neighboring municipalities are Kuessaberg with the district Reckingen in the north, Mellikon in the east, in the southeast Böbikon, Baldingen in the south, Tegerfelden in the southwest and Zurzach in the West.

History

During the Bronze Age the area was settled, as evidenced by finds of graves, weapons and items. During the reign of the Romans was in Rekingen a large estate. It was built around 50 AD and was used to supply the military camp in Vindonissa. In the immediate vicinity there was the settlement Tenedo ( Zurzach ). Around the year 260 burned marauding Alemanni settled the estate. Order 370, the Rhine was the northern border of the Roman Empire, at Rekingen were two watchtowers. The first was in 1876 removed during railway construction, the second in 1936 exposed, explored and then covered up again. In the first decade of the 5th century, the Romans withdrew permanently.

The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is: " Shared by Yellow with black R and blue with yellow half mill wheel. » The coat of arms was first mapped to the church seal of 1851. The mill-wheel is reminiscent of the three mills that once existed in Rekingen.

On December 31, 2013 962 people lived in Rekingen, the proportion of foreigners was 29.9 %. At the 2000 census, 41.2 % were Roman Catholic, reformed 33.8 % and 10.8 % Muslim; 2.3% belonged to other faiths. 84.2 % identified German as their main language, Albanian 5.8%, 3.8 % Italian, 1.0% per English, Portuguese and Serbo-Croatian.

Politics and Law

Education

The municipality has a kindergarten and a school building in which the primary school and secondary school are taught. The junior high school and the school district can be visited in Zurzach. The nearest Canton schools ( high schools ) are located in Baden and betting rings.
