Reto Hug

Reto Hug (born 24 January 1975) is a former Swiss triathlete at the Olympic distance race (1.5 km swim, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) starts.

Career

1990 Hug first participated in a triathlon. At Junior level remained successes, first, but after the entry into the elite category made ​​the breakthrough. He won at the European Championships 1999, gold medal, in the following year the silver medal. In 1999 World Cup, he finished third in the overall standings. At the Summer Olympics in Sydney in 2000 he was eighth. In 2001, he won a World Cup race in Lausanne.

The following years were marked by injuries. Hug could qualify for the 2004 Summer Olympics, but due to illness reached only the 40th place. After a six year break Hug returned in 2005 back to top-level sport and won at the World Championships in Gamagōri the silver medal. At the World Championship 2008 in Vancouver, he finished third.

Reto Hug was a member of the Swiss Triathlon Team London 2012.

The five-time Swiss champion is a qualified electrician and medical technicians; at the University Hospital of Zurich, he is training for physiotherapists. He is married to a professional triathlete Nicola Spirig and has a son (* 2013). It is located in Zurich's angle.

In October 2012 Reto Hug announced plans to end his career at the end of the year.
