Roland Schmaltz

Roland Schmaltz (* November 15, 1974 in Mannheim ) is a German chess grandmaster.

Under the pseudonym Hawkeye ( Hawkeye ) Schmaltz was known on chess servers. He is a multiple ( unofficial ) world champion in Bullet chess (1 minute per game ), the very rapid form of lightning chess. By his own account, he played about 100,000 games on different servers.

In 1993 he won the German youth championship in Munster. In 1995 he took on a business degree at the University of Mannheim, but which he did not finish. He then completed an apprenticeship as an IT specialist. Three times he won the Badische Individual Championship (1996, 1997 and 1998). In 1998 he became German champion Lightning in 2000, he was awarded the title of International Master, the end of 2001 the Grand Master title. Schmaltz lived from 2005 to 2012 in Brisbane, Australia, where he married in 2009. After a period as a professional poker player, he plays since 2012 back in the OSG Baden -Baden and works as a chess coach. Since 2013 he is A coach of the German Chess Federation.

Schmaltz wrote in 2004 the book The Complete Chess Server Guide (ISBN 3-88086-180-3 ). His current Elo rating is 2546 (as of September 2013).
