Rösli Streiff

Rosa ( « Rosli ") Streiff ( born January 16, 1901 in Glarus, † February 7, 1997 ibid ) was a Swiss ski racer. She won two gold medals at the Alpine World Skiing Championships in 1932 and reached several victories and podium positions in national and international races.

Biography

Streiff drove her first ski race in 1928 and 1929 was a founding member of the Swiss women's ski club. In July 1929, she won the slalom world cup race of the summer at Jungfraujoch, in the downhill, she was third. At the Arlberg - Kandahar race in Murren, she was third in slalom and combined in 1931 and fourth in the downhill. In the same year Streiff also increased in Murren at the first Alpine Skiing World Championships in part, in which it achieved placements in midfield.

In the first race of the SDS- Swiss Ladies Ski Club on January 15, 1932 Streiff won all disciplines. Two weeks later, she was also three -time winner in the downhill, slalom and combined at the Great Ski Race of Switzerland - the Swiss Ski Championships - in Zermatt, for which at that time but still no championship title, but only perpetual trophies were awarded. The highlight of her career reached Streiff early February at the World Championships in 1932 in Cortina d' Ampezzo. She went first to eighth in the downhill, was the next day with more than ten seconds ahead of the Briton Audrey Sale - Barker World Champion in slalom and thus also secured the world title in the combination.

In the second SDS- race 1933 Streiff second in the downhill and each third in slalom and combined. At the World Cup 1933 in Innsbruck, she was fifth in the slalom, but only 22 in the downhill and thus Eighth in the combination. A year later, it reached at the World Championships 1934 in St. Moritz in sixth departure, Eighth and Seventh combination of the slalom again top 10 results in all disciplines. At the World Cup 1935 in Mürren Streiff was affected by a training injury that she had suffered shortly before the start of the competitions. Nevertheless, she went to sixth place in the downhill but only ranked 29, which meant the 16th place in the slalom in combination. Previously, she had become at the Austrian Championships 1935 Second Slalom and at the Arlberg - Kandahar race the slalom Fifth. At their last World Cup appearance in 1936 in Innsbruck 13th place was their best result in slalom.

1939 Streiff announced the first woman recruit school in Basel and was a truck driver in the Women's Forum. Along with her brother Christian, she was in the 1950s, managing director, founded by her grandfather in 1863 Bleaching Streiff in Glarus.
